Message from Brighton & Hove City Council

We want to make Brighton & Hove City Council services more accessible to Deaf residents by putting BSL videos on our website.

But we need to know what information on our website is most helpful and important to you, as a Deaf resident, and for the Deaf community in the city.

Please tell us what information would be most useful by filling in the online survey by clicking on the button below. Your views can help DeafCOG and the council decide what information to prioritise for translation into BSL.

This project is part of the council’s work towards meeting the pledges of the British Deaf Association’s BSL Charter. The views of Deaf residents are important to the council and we appreciate the time you spend filling in this survey.

The online survey runs from Monday, 9 September to Sunday, 7 October 2019.

Online Survey - Closed

Update:

The online survey closed at midnight, 7 October 2019.

The online survey was advertised on the following social media channels:

  • DeafCOG’s FB (and shared with other Deaf led organisations / groups)

  • DeafCOG’s Twitter

  • DeafCOG’s website (dedicated page)

  • DeafCOG’s social gatherings e.g. Our Space, Café Social, etc.

  • Brighton and Hove City Council’s website and Twitter

Out of 44 surveys carried out - 39 surveys were completed. DeafCOG’s Communication Officer assisted 4 Deaf people with the online survey.

Next Step:

DeafCOG’s Communication Officer will meet up with the Head of the Communities, Equality & Third Sector Team and the Digital Communications Manager from Brighton & Hove City Council at the end of November to look at the survey findings and agree on setting up a focus group consisting of Deaf people who took part in the survey.

We hope that the Council and the focus group will agree on what services they would like BSL translated on the Council's website. It is important to remember that not all services will be covered in BSL. The survey findings will be made available to download very soon.

Please keep an eye on this page, Facebook and Twitter for new updates.
